I couldn’t agree more. As an eighties child my parents couldn’t afford to eat out or buy takeaways. We would have a meal at the end of our caravan holiday in Cleethorpes or a Chinese takeaway once a year.

My mum isn’t the best of cooks, my dad was ok. We never starved though as he grew his own veg. I watched my grandma cook. It was pretty basic stuff but very yummy.

I love cooking and can make a meal out of a few basic staples. My daughter is a good cook and I have been teaching my 16yr old son a few dishes over the last couple of years.

I’m still in the mindset that a takeaway or going out for a meal should be a treat that happens every so often. It’s more memorable that way.
