I had a trip down memory lane this evening and hunted out some of my old web design work. One thing that struck me was that some of the things I gave up on, or was talked out of by people I looked up to, were actually better that some of the stuff that went live.

The most interesting find, on a CD dated 4th April 2000, but with the actual files dated 19th December 1999, was a layout using only CSS for positioning. I have written some more about it here and uploaded the page and stylesheet.

I remember putting together this page, showing it to a few people and being told that I couldn’t do that… not cross browser compatible etc. I listened then, people are still telling me the same things now, about this site. I don’t take a blind bit of notice these days!
